Which
preinstalled software is necessary on my PC ?
|
 |
d.f.g
programs require the free
Visual Basic Run-Time DLLs , Mscomctl.ocx,
Msscript.ocx - in most cases this
DLLs are already installed on the PC since this DLLs and
OCXs are also used by a lot of other
application software.

If any DLLs or
OCXs are missing on your system, you can
download from here. Download, unzip and copy the single files into
the Windows System32 directory and run "Regsver32.exe
filename.dll" or download and install a complete package
(self installing) |
|
 |
|
 |
I downloaded the
setup file. It's a zip file, but it will not extract with my unzip
program. Is there an unzip program you recommend? |
 |
The Installation program does unzip
with practically all zip utilities. Most properly the setup file was
corrupted during download. Since the downloaded (corrupted) file is
stored in the cache of the internet explorer you have to empty the
explorer cache before you can redownload the file. Click in the
internet explorer on
--> Tools --> Internet Options
... --> (Temporary Internet Files.. ) Delete Files
Now you can download again.
|
 |
From where
can I download missing ocx or dll files ?
|
 |
Click on the following link and
download what is missing on your system :http://dllcentral.netfirms.com
|
 |
What shall I do
with downloaded DLL's and OCX's which were missing on my system ? |
 |
It’s not very complicated. Let's
assume that you have downloaded "RICHED32.DLL"
Perform the following steps:
1. Copy the file
"RICHED32.DLL" into your System32 folder.
2. click on
START button in the Task bar
3. click on
Run...
4. Type in the Textbox:
Regsvr32.exe RICHED32.DLL
5. Click OK
The library file or active X
component is now installed and registered in your Windows system. |
 |
Can I change
the proposed installation directory during the setup procedure
?
|
 |
Yes ! But it is highly recommended
not to change it. The d.f.g programs are sharing one common directory
(C:\program files\DFG\Common\) where all necessary shared files are installed. This
Common directory must be on the same directory level as the other
program directories.
 |
 |
Is it
necessary to uninstall the program if I want to install a newer version
?
|
 |
Yes ! Because of the
Microsoft installation program. Please make sure that the program is not
running when you try to uninstall it. If you install the new version
without uninstalling the old one, the old files will remain on your
system. |
 |
When I attempt to start the
program, I get an error stating that MSCOMCTL.ocx or one of its
dependents is missing or not properly registered. What is the problem?
|
 |
This is an ActiveX component
used by d.f.g's custom browser interface. This control is present in most
Windows Operating Systems, and this error indicates that it either needs
to be updated, is corrupted, or missing. You can download an executable
named "mscomctl.exe"
that will install a recent version of this component from our
download site.
Be sure and take
notice of where you download this file, because after it is downloaded,
you will need to double-click (extract) it for proper installation. |
 |
When I attempt to start the
program, I get an error stating that MSVBVM60.DLL is missing or
corrupted. What is the problem?
|
 |
This is a common Visual Basic
Runtime Module needed to properly run d.f.g's software. This
control is present in most Windows Operating Systems, and this error
indicates that the file is corrupted or missing. You can download an
executable named "simvb6_7.zip"
that will install a recent version of this component from our
download site.
Be sure and take
notice of where you download this file, because after it is downloaded,
you will need to double-click (extract) it for proper installation. |
 |
When trying to
start the program I get the following message - "MS Script Control not
available"
Should this be
installed and where can I find it ? |
 |
MS Script Control must be installed
on your system. This control is installed by default on Win2000 and
WinXP systems.
For the other Windows operating
systems you can download it from our
download page |
 |
I have a
problem in uninstalling the software ...., what shall I do?
|
 |
Please be sure that
the software is not running
when you are starting the
uninstall process. Exit the program with the exit button. dfg ShutDown XP has
because of security reasons no exit button. For this program please use
the Windows task manager (start with Ctrl-Alt-Del). Click on applications dfg ShutDown XP and then click on "End Task".
To uninstall use "Add/Remove
Programs" in the Windows control panel. We are using
Microsoft Package Builder to generate the setup program. During the
setup a ST6UNST.LOG will be located on your disk in the DFG folder.
If this file is
corrupted or you tried to uninstall when the program was running, the
software can’t be uninstalled. In order to solve this problem :
-
delete the
ST6UNST.LOG file
-
reinstall the
program
-
uninstall the
program
or you can use the

When I try to
select my CD-RW as my backup media, I get the err. msg.: BACKUP MEDIA
NOT READY
? |
 |
dfg BackUp XP distributes the files to be
backed up in several stand alone Zip files of a size fitting a standard
writable CD (CD-R) or a size chosen by the user. Therefore it can backup
your files to logical drives such as your hard disks, network drives,
ZIP drives, JAZ, SyQuest, writable
CD (CD-R), and most other removable medias. But in any case you need a
logical drive (e.g. X:\) or a Universal Naming Convention (UNC)
directory name (e.g. \\server\backup\mydirectory)
Your CD writer must be viewed through the
Windows Explorer like any drive, using a driver like Direct CD ( Adaptec
-Roxio). If you use a CD-RW, you must first format the media through the
driver before running the job. If you are running
Windows XP, you need also
Direct Cd (or Nero's InCd). The driver includes in Windows XP works only
through the Explore but don't
allow other programs to write on CD. It is a limited version of Direct
CD
Visit Roxio site
or
Nero site |
 |
I am wondering if
it is possible to backup my entire hard drive? If it is how do you do
so? |
 |
Sure you can. Add the
root directory to the backup list and add each directory direct
connected to the root by clicking on button
+Dir/+SubDir(s)
With dfg BackUp XP (Vers.2.2.2 or higher) you can define a
profile (file collection) containing all files of your drives.
1.
change to tab "Sources"
and click on New
Profile
2.
select the drive
(Click with left mouse button)

3.
Click on button
+Dir/+SubDir(s)
Repeat step 2 and 3
for each drive in your PC
4.
Save the new profile
with a new name (professional version only)

Note:
using the Personal
Edition you have to use the standard profile
5.
Start backup
Note:
If the number of files
on the drive is very high, define limitations to the maximum number of
files or size of ZIP archives.
|
 |
I currently backed up
my Documents and Settings folder using dfg BackUp XP and it took about
30 seconds for 31 megabyte (zipped archive size). I'm backing up the
same folder with another backup utility and it's taking well over a
fourty five minutes. My experience with backup programs is that take a
fair amount of time to do their job and so it seems a bit unusual for
that task to be accomplished so quickly. Please can you comment why
dfg BackUp XP can do the job in only a few seconds
? |
 |
dfg BackUp XP has been designed to
fulfill the
following criteria:
+ to be easy to use (for novices and
experts)
+ to be fast (so that there is no reason
not to do a daily backup before shutdown)
+ to be secure with high availability and
reliability
+ to use a minimum of backup media
storage space
This targets have been
achieved
by using a
very fast, efficient and secure compression
algorithms
and storing
the backup files in well structured ZIP archives. |
 |
What CD-R/RW drives does dfg BackUp XP
support? |
 |
Please see the compatibility list
Supported CD drives |
 |
How do I configure properly my CD-R/RW
drive? |
 |
Under Windows 95/98/ME/XP/NT/2000 you must
make sure that the following settings are enabled/disabled for all CD
drives on the user's system (CD Readers and CD Writers):
Windows 95/98/ME Settings:
Open 'Control Panel' and click on
'System'.
Select 'Device Manager' tab.
Click on the CD-Rom icon
For every CD device in the
list, do the following:
Select the Device.
Select 'Settings'.
Enable 'Disconnect'.
Enable 'Sync Data Transfer'.
Disable 'Auto Insert Notification'.
Enable 'DMA' (if available).
Click on 'OK'.
Reboot the system for settings to take
effect.
Windows NT/2000/XP
Settings:
Windows NT4 must have Service Pack
6 installed.
Users must currently have
Administrative rights (This will be rectified in a future version.)
Set the following registry value to
disable Auto-Insert Notification:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/Cdrom/Autorun=0
Rebooting the system is advisable,
but not required.
Make sure that your IDE/ATAPI
drivers for your motherboard are updated. Some motherboards have an
issue sending data to a CDR/DVD if these drivers are not updated. If you
have a writing problem, this is one of the first things you should
check. Device Manager - IDE ATA/ATAPI
Controllers. Having updated
drivers is very important when using SPTI instead of ASPI.
General Issues:
AIN (Auto-Insert Notification)
- Be aware that other CD aware applications (Nero, Roxio, WinOnCD, etc.)
may change the settings above causing all kinds of issues. We recommend
uninstalling these products if possible or at least making your
application aware of these problems.
ASPI DRIVERS - Certain
products mentioned above can install incompatible, non-standard ASPI
drivers. CDWriterXP
does not rely on ASPI for Windows
NT/XP/2000, but Windows 95/98/ME users may be experience compatibility
issues if other products have installed non-standard drivers. If this is
the case, uninstalling the problem software should fix the problem.

Can dfg ShutDown
XP start the PC at 6 pm and run a defined program ? |
 |
We recommend to
install a timer switch (can be bought for 3-5$ in a hardware store)
1. use A_ShutDown to power off your pc at (e.g.) 10 pm. ,
2. set the timer switch to turn off the power half a hour later (to be
sure that the pc is already safely switched off.
3. set the timer switch to turn on the power at (e.g.) 6 am
4. set in the bios restart on power failure
(The timer switch simulates a power failure)
5. put all programs you like to start at (e.g.) 6 am into the start
folder |

disappeared - how can I restore them ? |
 |
For security
reasons the shutdown and logoff button in the Task Manager and in Windows start
menu will be removed if you choose the option
"Enable Secure PC"
(v.2.3.1 or later after your reconfirmation only)
-- if you
disable (uncheck) this function

Program dfg AtomicTimeSync XP
 |
My computer time
is not correct after using dfg AtomicTimeSync XP |
 |
If your PC clock is
off by an hour or more after using AtomicTimeSync, this would indicate
that your PC is currently set to an incorrect Time Zone within your
Windows setup options.
To set your local time
accurately, the AtomicTimeSync program uses your selected Time Zone
choice that you provided to Windows when it was first installed. If you
have an incorrect Time Zone selected, the time adjustment AtomicTimeSync
makes would also be incorrect because of this. In version 3.0.1 or
higher of AtomicTimeSync, you can go to the Tools menu and then to
System Date/Time to correct your Time Zone choice.
Once you have selected
the correct time zone, then use AtomicTimeSync to ping again and see
what happens. |
 |
dfg AtomicTimeSync XP
displays the wrong dates for Daylight Saving Time start and end |
 |
Assuming you have
selected the right Time Zone in Windows in the first place, it would
seem that the time zone definitions are incorrect. The Time Zone rules
that tell Windows when to start and exit Daylight Saving Time are
actually part of the operating system and come from Microsoft.
dfg AtomicTimeSync XP is simply a tool to take the current atomic-measured
time and then update your PC, according to your Time Zone settings.
Some locations, such
as Mexico and Brazil to name a few, have changed their Time Zone rules
since your version of Windows was released, so the time zone rules built
into Windows are no longer correct.
To fix this issue, you
will need to look on Microsoft's web site for a downloadable patch for
any Windows user in your country to update the Time Zone rules. Once
Windows has the correct information, the computer will adjust your clock
automatically when Daylight Saving Time begins and ends and the time
changes made by dfg AtomicTimeSync XP will also be correct. |
 |

in the program is not working, how do I fix this? |
